If you look at the design of GST website, you will notice that site functionality delays processes and at the end tax payers suffer.

For example, today I uploaded GSTR-1 data (offline method), and data was not processed. Processing data takes around 15-20 minutes.

Again, after 30 minutes I logged in and submitted return. Notice you cannot file return immediately after submission. Summary generation takes another 15-20 minutes.

In all this I forgot to file the return.

Look at the process:

  1. 15-20 minutes for data processing.
  2. 15-20 minutes for summary generation.

You need to give at-least 30 minutes for a single return.

I believe this process should be changed. User should be able to file return immediately after uploading data.

I think we should demand that GSTN change this process. With the tech knowledge I have, GSTN is saving on server cost to process data async. Instead data should be processed processed immediately without back-end scheduling.

This is not only about GSTR-1, but almost all functionalities on GST portal.

Every process is processed asynchronously resulting in time waste for professionals and tax payers.

Ease of doing business for professionals is just on papers unless this issue is solved. GST portal should learn from Income Tax website which does not involve any processing time.

I wonder how could earlier VAT IT infrastructure handled this situation. For example, under Karnataka VAT dealers had to upload sales and purchase data. If a state could do this, it can be done at country level too.

We need to understand few things.

  1. Why it takes so long for GST website to process uploaded data?
  2. Site maintenance cost involves server cost?
  3. Reason behind this workflow.

If data is processed as soon as it is uploaded, then half of the issues will be get resolved. Tax practitioners don't have to wait for 30 minutes to file a single return.

Government should interfere here and instruct GSTN to process data ASAP.
