How much GST will be imposed on items used to do the pooja?

Whether prasad or prasadam is taxed under GST?

Certain items used as Prasad in pooja are taxed and certain items are exempted from tax.

Following items are exempted from tax, meaning no tax will be charged on these items.

  • Rudraksha, rudraksha mala, tulsi kanthi mala, panchgavya (mixture of cowdung, desi ghee, milk and curd);
  • Sacred thread (commonly known as yagnopavit);
  • Wooden khadau;
  • Panchamrit,
  • Vibhuti sold by religious institutions,
  • Unbranded honey
  • Wick for diya.
  • Roli
  • Kalava (Raksha sutra)
  • Chandan tika

However following items will be taxed at the rate of 5%

  • lobhan,
  • mishri,
  • batasha
  • bura
