The Goods and Services Tax Network has introduced a new Multistate Registration facility that allows taxpayers to apply for GST registration in multiple States and Union Territories simultaneously under the same PAN.

The new functionality is aimed at simplifying the GST registration process for businesses operating across the multiple states by eliminating repetitive data entry.
the facility is currently available only to Normal Taxpayers.
How the new Multistate GST Registration facility works?
A new “Multistate Registration” tab has been added to the GST Common Portal homepage. Applicants seeking GST registration in multiple States or UTs under the same PAN can use this option to select all the locations where registration is required.
After selecting the States or UTs, the system generates a Master Temporary Reference Number (TRN).
Using the Master TRN, applicants must provide Common Registration Information (CRI).
This includes:
The Master TRN must be submitted within 15 days.
Once the Common Registration Information is submitted, the GST portal generates separateindividual TRNs for each selected State or UT.
Common details will be auto-populated
One of the key benefits of the new GSTN facility is that applicants will not have to repeatedly enter the same information for every state registration.
The common information submitted through the CRI is automatically populated in the respective individual TRNs. The information remains editable if any changes are required.
Applicants must then complete the remaining State/UT specific information, including:
This means businesses can complete the common portion of multiple GST registration applications through a single process while providing location specific information separately.
GSTN aims to reduce repetitive data entry
The introduction of the Multistate Registration facility is expected to make GST registration more convenient for businesses with operations in several states or UTs.
Previously, businesses requiring registrations in multiple states had to provide common information separately in individual registration applications. The new facility allows this information to be entered once and subsequently populated across the selected applications.
According to GSTN, the functionality is intended to reduce repetitive data entry and facilitate ease of doing business.
Who can use the Multistate Registration facility?
At present, the facility is available to Normal Taxpayers seeking GST registration in more than one State or Union Territory under the same PAN.
Businesses with operations across multiple states can therefore use the new facility to initiate registrations for several locations through the GST Common Portal.
However, applicants will still need to provide the required state specific details and complete applicable authentication and registration requirements for each State or UT.
What businesses should know
The new functionality does not create a single GST registration covering all states. Instead, it simplifies the process of applying for separate GST registrations in multiple States or UTs.
Businesses must still complete the relevant requirements for each individual registration, including details relating to the principal and additional places of business and Aadhaar authentication.
The introduction of the facility is expected to be particularly useful for companies, retailers, service providers and other businesses expanding their operations across multiple states.
The new GSTN Multistate Registration facility is designed to simplify GST registration for taxpayers operating in multiple States and Union Territories. By allowing common business information to be entered once and automatically populated across individua applications, the facility can reduce repetitive work and make the registration process more efficient.
Businesses planning to obtain GST registrations across multiple states should check the “Multistate Registration” option on the GST Common Portal and ensure that all common and state specific information is submitted within the prescribed timelines.
