How many startups do we have in this country of over a billion population?

Well, it does not matter!!! We hardly have any startup which has hit the world startup map.

Let us discuss only internet or tech startups.

Basically worldwide we have 2 type of companies or say them startups.

  1. Purely tech companies
  2. Non tech services but supported or enabled by tech

Purely Tech companies

These are the companies which provide services using technology, services are consumed through a device.

Now lets list down the startups that made name in this category.

Social Networks

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • Snapchat
  • Pinterest

Messaging Apps

  • Whatsapp
  • Skype

Others in this category will fail sooner or later.

Internet startups

  • Dropbox
  • Quora

I will keep the list shot to just indicate what I am trying to say.

Non tech services but supported or enabled by tech

  • UBER
  • Spotify
  • Alibaba
  • Amazon
  • Xiaomi
  • Airbnb

Just go to google and search Top startups in the world. Do we get any Indian startup there?

What is the reason that we do not have any startup in India, which can compete with these giants?

Why India is not producing enough entrepreneurs?

India on average produce highest number of engineers, but still we are not able to create one world leading startup.

To make something big we have to think big.

Now look at the few startups started by Indians:

  • Flipkart
  • Snapdeal
  • Zoho
  • OYO Rooms

Did you find anything similar in these?

Well the idea of each of these is borrowed from some other famous startup.

Flipkart and Snapdeal borrowed Amazon model.

Zoho is master in doing this, take a successful product, make copy of it and do PR as a one stop solution for all internet application.

OYO is just AirBNB with a different target.

We are not thinking big or we are too scared to take risk.

It is not only problem of founders but even public does not support. Users, mainly the mindset of Indians is to be blamed.
